A quiet lane on Guernsey. Most roads and streets are very narrow, bordered by stone walls, earthen embankments, or hedgerows.

Guernsey enjoys a mild climate, with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures, due to the influence of the Gulf Stream. In the past, many greenhouses grew flowers for the markets in England and Europe. Growth is lush and varied, with lots of wild flowers in the hedgerows.

No other breeds of cows are allowed onto the island, so the Guernsey cow has never been compromised by inter-breeding with other breeds. The breed has remained pure on Guernsey for centuries. The Guernsey is known for its gentle nature, and production of rich, golden milk. It has all the positive attributes of a dairy cow. It is only the high butter-fat production that in our modern "low-fat" world has caused the Guernsey cow to lose popularity. Butter from Guernsey milk is rich, delicious and almost blindingly yellow!

The roads and laneways of Guernsey are narrow and twisting, making it inadvisable for tourists to rent a car for getting around. There is a great bus system, and walking is a joy on Guernsey.
